Garden Tag

Celebrate spring and summer with a game of garden tag using themed yoga poses! This game is best played in an open space, where kids are able to move their bodies freely. Bring this game into any open space, like a gym or yoga studio when kids can’t go outside, or play it in a grassy outdoor area.

This game is a lively part of our Spring Lesson Plan!

Here are two ways to play this game:

  • Standard Game of Tag: Children freeze in garden-themed yoga poses when tagged.
  • Cooperative Game of Tag: Frozen children can be released from their pose when a free child runs over and pretends to sprinkle water on them from their yoga watering can.

Remind children that they can switch poses while frozen!

Here are 7 garden-themed yoga poses to use with Garden Tag.

Bumblebee – flap your wings, wiggle your antennae, and buzz in the garden!

Weeds – how did those get in our garden?

Butterfly – if you can, try to gently flap your wings.

Watering can – as you tip over, twinkle your fingers to show the water flowing out of the spout.

Bunny rabbit – nibble yummy plants and weeds while you hang out in the garden.

Flower – bloom into a bright and colorful flower!

Little green Garter Snake – hiding under the plants.
