There Was an Old Pirate Who Swallowed a Fish

Jennifer Ward

To encourage breathing and group participation, engage children to sing along with you!

Take a deep breath (as the pirate’s belly grows) at the end of each stanza, to help children prepare for the next round!

For an added challenge, have children run through each pose at the last verse of the book.

Take a deep breath, and watch the pirate’s belly grow!

Flip and flap the bird wings, as it settles in next to the fish.

Knees fall to the side to make the map.

Gold shimmers all around.

Close the lid on the treasure chest to protect all the gold!

Hold strong! Can a pirate walk your plank?

Open up from the plank, into the sail – remember to do both sides!

A tall, strong, wooden mast!

Down went the whole pirate ship!

Sink to the bottom of the deep, dark sea.
